Expect things to go ok from here. Tried to get a replacement but the Outlet did not have any other units - no longer in stock. Audio worked but video quit. Waiting for delivery of new 7" portable DVD player and credit for returned, defunct 9" portable DVD player. The product arrived on time and billing was on spot. Unfortunately the unit stopped displaying the video. Upgraded unit (at least the cost was more) but got a smaller screen (7" vs 9").
About 9 months later, after light use (estimated 20 hours) the DVD stopped spinning entirely. We used it only a couple of times before the DVD drive began making noises. Toshiba says to send it in for repair (at customer cost) and as there is no receipt (item was a gift) customer must pay labor charges.
The player is good when it works, but unless you can afford to keep replacing it, it's not worth the money. Have to keep turning it on and off to get it to work and sometimes it won't continue to play the dvd. Bought this dvd player for airplane use. Started freezing up and skipping while playing dvd's within the first year of use. For the money, you definitely should buy an extended service plan or a cheaper dvd player.
Definetly recommend to anybody wanting a portable DVD player. Not a problem for this DVD player. The conditions are dusty and sometimes extremely hot. Great picture, long battery life(about 5 1/2 hours) and easy to use. This was definetly one of the best DVD players for the size and price. I'm currently deployed to Iraq, and have had this DVD player for the last 10 months. Never had 1 Issue with it.
This weekend, we again traveled and this time the DVD player wouldn't even attempt to read the DVD. This was a complete waste of money. Customer Service was of no help-we were told that we could send it in to be looked at for $100. Once again, we were on a trip and it wasn't working. From the start, we had problems with it reading the DVDs. We purchased this DVD player in September 2007 with the purpose of using it to keep our daughter entertained on long car rides. This past September, just a few days over the one-year warranty end date, we called customer service to complain about the poor quality. That was the cost to send it in-to repair it would be an additional cost.
